Fall Shut-Down/Winterization

The Waterboys Irrigation schedules all fall shut-down/winterization services between October and November.

Winterization is critical to the health of the irrigation system. Failure to properly drain the system in the fall can allow water to freeze in the valves and lines over the winter. The result is significant damage to these areas and expensive repairs during spring start-up. The Waterboys Irrigation "blows out" (drains) the irrigation system using an air compressor that pushes water out of the valves and sprinkler heads at 100 pounds per square inch. We perform the following services:

  • Turn off irrigation system water valve inside the house and label "Irrigation Control Valve"
  • Purge all water from system using diesel air compressor (over 100 psi)
  • Turn off system clock
  • Drain backflow plumbing unit and purge test valves
